Vietnam update

The Turkish authorities have decided with immediate effect that Certificates of Origin used to import goods into Turkey can no longer state European Community in Box 3. They now require just the origin of each country to be stated. European Union can be used as well as the individual origin of each country but it is not required.

The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the EU and Vietnam came in to place on the 1st August 2020.This means that an EUR1 can now be issued for Exports to Vietnam. Exporters should ensure their goods meet the necessary rules of origin before applying.

It has come to the attention of the British Chambers of Commerce that some Qatari customs authorities are now refusing to accept electronic certificates of origin and are insisting that documents are also legalised. This matter has been raised with the Department for International Trade (DIT) who are making representations to their customs authorities.

In the meantime we suggest that manual certificates are used and documents are legalised.

The authorities are intending to charge a 1% penalty for shipments which do not comply.

We have been informed by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce that with immediate effect, the Saudi Embassy is now closed until further notice.

The Arab Chamber is still certifying documentation but unfortunately no legalisation can take place. This is a rapidly changing situation and we will endeavour to keep you updated as and when we have more information.
